Since Junior Auxiliary gives primary consideration to children, each Chapter is required to have at least one Child Welfare Project for which it has full administrative responsibility. The project must provide one more of the basic necessities of life such as food, clothing, shelter, and/or emotional support and there must be an ongoing relationship and commitment established between the Chapter members and the recipient.
Tangipahoa’s Project: "Lynding A Hand" This year, the Junior Auxiliary of Tangipahoa has collaborated with Lynhaven Retreat Center located in Hammond, LA which is dedicated to the rescue, recovery, and re-engagement into society of women and children who have faced homelessness, addiction, human trafficking, abuse, or mental illness. JAT has partnered with local professionals and businesses to bring interactive and educational content such as life skills training and practical knowledge necessary for day-to-day life. While the goal is to reach the children, the women are engaged as well to create an overall environment of wellness and safety for the child and/or their future children. Not only do we participate in these sessions, but we are there to provide emotional support during this delicate time as well. We have an ongoing relationship and commitment with the children of Lynhaven and visit as often as availability allows, typically culminating into 1-2 times a month. Examples of activities include- Healthy Meals on a Budget, Basic First Aid & Fire Safety, Situational Awareness/Safety Tips, and fun socials including Fall Festival and a Cookie Decorating Class.
Birthday Celebration National Ice Cream Day! JA ladies gathered to celebrate a resident of Lynhaven Retreat's 4th birthday celebration. We threw a great birthday party, flamingled with the residents, and were even taught how to make homemade ice cream by our very own JA member. Happy 4th Birthday Savannah - we had a FLAMAZING time celebrating your special day!
